Toni's Backbacks

Etna High School Interact Club's (ScottValley) instituted this project to help supply elementary age children in Mexico with basic school supplies and a pack for carrying books etc. In Mexico, children are required to attend school through sixth grade and there are many disadvantaged children that just don't have paper and pencils since for the most part they are not provided by the schools. These backpacks are filled with paper, pencils, crayolas, glue etc. Many merchants have donated items to be included in the backpacks.

This Project was Toni's dream and she fully intended on promoting this throughout District5110 and the rest of the USA. There are similar projects sponsored by other organizations including Rotary Clubs and she hoped to incorporate them into a cohesive effort. The Etna Interact Club endeavors to do all it can to see that happpen.
So far over 400 backpacks have been delivered to schools in San Felipe, the Ensenada Area, Maneadora and Colima. More will be delivered to the Yucatan and Cabo San Lucas (Mesa Colorado) in the Spring of 2008. The Ashland Interact Club recently provided an additional 100 Back Packs to be delivered this spring. Transportation is the main hurdle to overcome and if you can help in that area it will be greatly appreciated.
