Youth Exchange Selection Process

So you want to be an Exchange Student. (We refer to students going to other countries as Outbound Exchange Students)

Important note: You cannot be more than 18 1/2 by Aug. 1, 2008; you must agree to abide by the rules of the exchange program, and you must complete our training program before you leave.

What the program costs and provides

Here is how the process works.

  1. You need to fill out a preliminary application and turn it into your local Rotary Club.
  2. Your club needs to forward the preliminary application to the Outbound Chair below. Preliminary applications are due November 30th.
  3. District interviews for students are parents are December 8th in Ashland.
  4. Those selected will then need to fill out the Application for a Rotary Youth Exchange Long Term Program. You need to carefully follow the District Directions for filling out the application. The application will be returned for completion or corrections if not done correctly.
  5. Mark your calendars: If selected you are required to attend:
    • the “country selection” meeting on January 12th and 13th, Location TBA. Check the online calendar for the latest information.
    • a training meeting March 22nd and 23rd, with your country Liaison Officer and other students from your country and any other going with you. Location TBA.
    • the Rotary District Conference (Convention) in Eugene, May 29th – June 1st.
    • the final orientation before you leave on exchange, June 14th.
