Differs from Ambassadorial Scholars:

  • Already has a bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  • Has significant, relevant work experience in the areas of conflict resolution, mediation diplomacy, international relations and similar field;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a career dedicated to peace and conflict resolution following the fellowship
  • Two year program with $25,000 scholarship for each year

  • Persons in the medical profession
  • Civil servants involved with mediating local disputes over political and environmental issues
  • Humanitarian aid agency project officer: Red Cross, Mercy Corps, Peace Corp, Ameri Corps and similar agencies
  • Social Workers
  • Lay and Religious Leaders
  • Military professional
  • Graduate assistants that have some relevant life experience.

Think outside the box!

Recruiting process:

  • Begins with clubs which must forward application by May of the year prior to beginning of course study (i.e. May 2007 for school year beginning September 2008).
  • District interviews the candidates in May and June that were clubs forwarded. District can submit only one candidate to RI.
  • July-October RI and Universities screen applicants.
  • November of year preceding beginning of school year candidates notified of selection.
  • Only 60 candidates selected each year worldwide for beginning of two-year program.
