Etna HS Interact Club

The opening of the 2008-09 School year at Etna High School was an inspiration for the Rotarians of Scott Valley. The initial meeting of the Interact Club was announced to the students and a note that they would focus this year in honor of their good friend Antonia. The room was packed with 40+ students and a number of faculty as well. We're off to a heck of a start; I don't think anything will deter this group of young adults! They jumped right in, elected officers and decided to continue and improve their Student Mentoring" project at the Etna Elementary School, perhaps start an a program to help senior citizens with chores and other ideas as well. They continue to support Toni's Dream Project. We've named it "Toni's Backpacks" and the project continues in 2008-09. Several Interact Clubs in Oregon have joined the program also.

Toni’s Backpacks Basketball Game

What a wonderful time we had at the Etna High as The Etna Varsity boys beat the Siskiyou Enforcers by 10 points in the closing minutes of the game. The event was well attended and the bleachers were nearly full. The Etna FFA sold hot dogs and burgers in support.\\\
It was wonderful to see players from every police dept in Siskiyou County show up to support this annual event in support of Etna High Interact Club’s event to support Toni’s Backpacks. We had The DA, Ass’t DA, Siskiyou County Sheriff, K9 and Undersheriff, Etna Police Dept, Mt. Shasta Police Dept, Weed and Yreka PDs and the CHP. Also playing was former CA Assemblyman and soon to be Congressional Candidate Doug LaMalfa. Let’s not forget the appearance of Bear, the Sheriff K9 that guarded the basket during the third quarter allowing the Enforcers to get a short lived but commanding lead. The Varsity boys fought back by delivering a huge plate of donuts to the cops which really slowed them down in the 4th period allowing them to regain the lead and eventually win the game.

Thanks to all the sponsors and those that donated to help support the Interact Club. Early accounting reveals that the Interact raised about $800 tonight! Good Job!
