Subj: Rotary Humanitarian Team Trip

Hello Rotarians and Friends of Rotary,
At some time in the recent--or not so recent--past you either participated in a Polio NID (National Immunization Day) Volunteer Team Trip with me or you emailed me saying you would like to participate in such a trip. Yes, there are still such opportunities, but they are few and far between. India is no longer planning National Immunization Days. Hallelujah! They are now planning only Regional or State SNIDs (Sub-National Immunization Days). These plans are generally developed and carried out so quickly that there is not enough lead time to plan the logistics of a volunteer team trip and get the word out. This is a wonderful predicament to have!
The good thing is that there are plenty of other major health needs to be addressed. Good friends PDG Terry and Mary Youlton are very experienced planners of humanitarian, medically motivated volunteer trips. They have participated in numerous Polio NID team trips; they have planned multifaceted volunteer trips that combined helping with a limb camp and a Polio NID event, or a limb camp and an eye camp. Now, after two years of fundraising and preparation, they have planned a wonderful humanitarian trip to Tanzania involving the distribution of malaria bed-nets.
Please take time to open the attachment and read about malaria and how this trip came to be. The background is there, the trip plans and costs are there, and the size of the group is optimal for having a truly meaningful and memorable experience. This is a rare opportunity!
Unfortunately I cannot commit the time or funding at this time--or I'd be part of the group! I urge you to consider putting your humanitarianism to work through this project.

                                                                                        Barbara Groner
