On June 21 Rotary International conducted the first plenary session of its 100th convention, in Birmingham, England. A highlight of the event was the surprise appearance and speech by His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

At the Rotary World Peace Symposium in Birmingham England, former U.N. Special Adviser Jan Egeland praised the work of Rotary International, but warned that it must adapt to a changing world.
