Rotary First Harvest's mission is to alleviate hunger in Southern Oregon and Northern California and to provide effective solutions to the opposing problems of hunger and waste. Using the power and networking of Rotary, RFH's objectives are to feed the hungry with surplus nutritious produce, meats and fruit; to use existing food distribution and transportation systems; to develop new partnerships for collection of foodstuffs, and to maintain minimal operating overhead.
The Golden Harvest Raffle raises money to help Rotary First Harvest maintain a part-time staff position, to transport food items, to develop and maintain public awareness efforts throughout the region.
Tickets are just $10 each! Buy several!!
The prizes are fabulous! You can win 1 of 6 incredible prizes:
- GRAND PRIZE: A week's stay in a Hawaiian Dream Home on Waikiki – including 70,000 Delta Airline miles toward the purchase of round trip airfare.
- A weekend in the Salishan Resort and Spa – plus two rounds of golf.
- A dinner for 10 at the lovely RoxyAnn Vineyards. Drink incredible wines and enjoy a dinner prepared by award-winning chefs.
- A private flight to SunRiver for lunch at the famous Trout House.
- A weekend in Brookings at a beach house near Harris Beach.
- A mini-Wine Cellar of approximately 20 bottles of Oregon Wines.
Sharon Parks, President of Rotary First Harvest, says, "The issues RFH addresses are easily solvable – theoretically. Perfectly good perishable food is being thrown away because of surplus, or because it is not commercially viable. Food banks, churches and other organizations identify and serve people who need food. The practicality of getting the available food to those who need it is not so easy. Rotary First Harvest exists to address this problem and we do so by using the incredible network of Rotary. Local Rotary Clubs help us recruit volunteers, businesses, and others who can help transport the food from the grower to the distributor."
Rotary District 5110 has identified Rotary First Harvest as a district designated project. All Rotary Clubs in the District, which encompasses the southern half of Oregon and northern section of California, work together to solve the basic issue of hunger. Each individual Rotary club identifies the need in their community and helps acquire and distribute the product.
